Setup

Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and your arms by your sides, or one dumbbell held in one hand.

Step by step

  1. Feet hip-width, stand tall.
  2. Slide one hand down your thigh.
  3. Pull back up with your side abs.

Cole's tip

Imagine standing between two panes of glass: bend straight to the side without leaning forward or back.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning forward or back.
  • Bouncing at the bottom.
  • Shrugging.

Make it easier or harder

Easier option

Smaller range.

Harder option

Hold a dumbbell in one hand; switch sides each round.

 Safety

  • Move smoothly; don’t bounce at the bottom.
  • Stop if you feel sharp or joint pain, numbness or tingling, chest pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness. Effort and muscle burn are normal; pain is not.

If you have an injury or medical condition, check with your doctor before trying a new exercise. This guide is general education, not medical advice.
