Setup
Stand tall with your feet together and your arms by your sides.
Step by step
- Step one foot out to the side.
- Sweep both arms overhead.
- Alternate sides, no jumping.
Cole's tip
All the arm sweep of a jumping jack with one foot always on the floor. Reach all the way overhead to earn every rep.
Common mistakes
- Locking the knees.
- Arms only half-way up.
- Holding your breath.
Make it easier or harder
Easier option
Arms to shoulder height only.
Harder option
Faster pace with a small knee bend each step.
Safety
- Only try full jumping jacks if your joints feel good; the programs never require jumping.
- Stop if you feel sharp or joint pain, numbness or tingling, chest pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness. Effort and muscle burn are normal; pain is not.
If you have an injury or medical condition, check with your doctor before trying a new exercise. This guide is general education, not medical advice.
